Drawing on years of research and development experience in South Korea, engineer Luong Vu Dang Quang returned to Vietnam with a clear ambition: to build a technology-driven company capable of developing aesthetic laser equipment and professional skincare solutions that are more accessible and better suited to the needs of the Vietnamese market.
From R&D Engineering in South Korea to a New Beginning in Vietnam
Luong Vu Dang Quang’s journey in South Korea initially began as a short-term professional opportunity. After joining a high-tech engineering program under the E-7 visa scheme, he expected to spend only a limited period working in the country.
His career, however, took a different direction. Working in a high-tech medical device company gave him the opportunity to become deeply involved in research and development, particularly in optical technology, laser systems, and advanced medical equipment.
With a background in electronic physics and strong English communication skills, he was assigned to work directly with American engineers involved in technology and equipment transfer projects. After approximately two years, he was promoted to R&D Director.
This period became an important stage in his professional development, allowing him to gain extensive practical knowledge of optics, laser technology, and medical device engineering. Later, he was invited to help establish and develop the company’s presence in the Vietnamese market.
Returning Home and Identifying an Opportunity in Laser Technology
As the company’s business in Vietnam began to grow, particularly in the aesthetic laser equipment segment, Quang began to see an opportunity beyond simply distributing imported products.
He believed that Vietnam had the potential to gradually develop its own capabilities in researching and manufacturing high-tech aesthetic equipment that could address the practical requirements of the domestic market.
Returning to Vietnam therefore became more than a personal decision. It marked a major professional transition—from working in an advanced R&D environment in South Korea to building a technology business in his home country.
During this period, he was introduced to an opportunity involving the production of biological facial mask materials. A company manufacturing masks for The Face Shop, a cosmetics brand under LG, approached him to develop biological mask sheets using Vietnamese coconut as a local raw material.
Using locally sourced coconut materials offered a cost advantage compared with ingredients such as ginseng, watermelon, or orange that were commonly used in South Korea. The first order consisted of 10,000 units and became an important milestone in establishing his manufacturing activities in Vietnam.
From Biological Masks to Aesthetic Devices and Professional Skincare
As demand for biological facial masks increased, production gradually expanded from a small facility in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City, to a larger operation in Can Giuoc, Long An.
The products were developed with a focus on appropriate material processing and reduced reliance on unnecessary chemicals. The technology also enabled the products to meet quality requirements for international markets.
The experience gained from this manufacturing business later became a foundation for developing professional skincare products, particularly products designed to support skin recovery and care following aesthetic laser procedures.
In 2016, AMED was established with a strategic focus on combining aesthetic laser equipment, treatment technology, and professional cosmeceutical solutions.
Rather than focusing solely on equipment distribution, AMED aims to develop a broader ecosystem that connects technology, professional devices, and skincare products throughout the treatment and post-treatment journey.
Developing Aesthetic Laser Equipment with Local R&D Capabilities
CO2 fractional laser systems are among the key technologies used by aesthetic clinics, spas, and dermatology-focused facilities. Alongside CO2 laser systems, AMED has also focused on developing pigment laser solutions for applications involving pigmentation concerns such as melasma and other skin discoloration conditions.
One of AMED’s important development priorities is to strengthen its ability to research and manufacture equipment locally. A number of machine components are researched and produced by the technical team, while specialized laser components are sourced from suitable international suppliers.
According to Quang, assembling the individual components is not the most challenging part of developing a laser system. The real technical value lies in the precise calibration of the optical and laser systems, which directly affects the equipment’s performance and stability.
The user interface is also designed with practical clinical use in mind. Doctors and operators can configure treatment parameters through an intuitive control system, allowing the machine to receive and process the required settings more efficiently.
Beyond Equipment: Technical Support and After-Sales Service
Vietnam’s aesthetic medical device market includes manufacturers and suppliers from the United States, South Korea, China, and other countries. Equipment prices vary significantly depending on technology, configuration, and brand positioning.
For AMED, however, price represents only one part of the value proposition. After-sales service, maintenance, technical support, and long-term equipment reliability are equally important factors.
Laser technology requires specialized knowledge across optics, electronics, control systems, and equipment calibration. The number of professionals with comprehensive expertise in these areas remains relatively limited in Vietnam.
AMED therefore considers technical support to be an essential part of its offering. The company aims not only to supply aesthetic laser equipment, but also to support partners with technical guidance, equipment operation, maintenance, and knowledge related to laser technology.
Building an Integrated Approach to Skin Treatment and Care
Building on its experience in aesthetic laser technology, AMED has expanded into professional cosmeceuticals for skin treatment and care. These products are developed around specific treatment needs and professional skincare routines.
The product portfolio has gradually expanded to include solutions supporting different skincare programs, including skin renewal, acne care, pigmentation care, brightening, and post-laser skincare.
AMED currently develops approximately 45 professional cosmeceutical products designed to complement treatment and skincare protocols.
This approach enables AMED to move beyond a traditional equipment supplier model toward an integrated solution that combines technology, aesthetic devices, professional skincare products, and technical support.
Toward Greater Independence in Aesthetic Laser Technology
With extensive experience in high-tech research and development in South Korea, Luong Vu Dang Quang has set a long-term goal of strengthening Vietnam’s capabilities in aesthetic laser technology.
AMED’s vision extends beyond the domestic market. The company aims to develop technologies, aesthetic equipment, and professional skincare products that can eventually reach wider markets across Asia.
This direction is built around three key priorities:

As part of its development strategy, AMED has explored opportunities to establish treatment facilities where its technologies and protocols can be applied directly in real-world skincare environments.
This model creates a connection between three key areas of the business: aesthetic laser technology, professional skincare research, and practical applications in skin treatment.
It also allows AMED to develop multiple sources of value rather than relying solely on equipment sales. Treatment-oriented skincare products for skin renewal, acne care, pigmentation management, and brightening can be developed alongside the company’s aesthetic device portfolio.
AMED at the NINJA Accelerator Program
In 2021, AMED was selected as one of 15 startups to participate in the NINJA Accelerator in Ho Chi Minh City, a program supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The program ran from January 12 to April 9, 2021, providing AMED with opportunities for business consulting, networking, and further development of its growth strategy.
Dr. Ngo Anh Ngoc, founder and CEO of Babuki and an advisor to AMED during the program, highlighted that the major challenge for AMED was not necessarily the availability of market demand, as the need for professional skin treatment already existed. Instead, building a strong team capable of developing the business and reaching the market effectively was a key priority.
Combining Technical Expertise with a Strong Professional Team
Developing a business that combines laser technology, medical aesthetics, and professional skincare requires expertise across multiple disciplines, including engineering, research, healthcare, and business development.
Quang focuses primarily on aesthetic devices and laser technology. Meanwhile, Nguyen Duc Tam, who has a background in chemistry and management experience in the healthcare sector, contributes to research and development of products designed for professional treatment protocols.
Building a strong business development and sales team remains an important part of AMED’s growth strategy, allowing the company to bring its technologies and solutions to a broader network of professional customers.
